Self-Compassion
for
Overachievers
Self-criticism is not a love language; yet, we all know how to speak it.
For many driven professionals, self-compassion is a nice idea but can be very difficult to apply in practice. Incorporating more self-kindness or self-love might seem like a stretch and yet, consistently maintaining excellent relationships and work output is maximized when our potential is not undermined by our negative self-talk. Self-compassion puts healthy boundaries around what we allow our inner critic to say to ourselves when difficult events unfold. Instead of an incessant need to drive forward and achieve more, self-compassion whispers encouraging words that permit us to rest and know or accept ourselves in a way that transcends what we look like, where we work, and the many other expectations that we must navigate. Learning to practice mindfulness in challenging moments can help to notice the “critic” that resides in our mind and engage with those voices in a more productive manner. This session explores practical ways to apply these concepts. This is an experiential session where participants will have an opportunity to try mindfulness/self-compassion techniques and engage in discussion with other attendees. It will be informative, fun, and a possibly a little bit awkward - but in a mostly good way.
